The Next Generation: Series Introduction

In 2016, as her mother lay dying, Loretta was summoned to her bedside where her mother said to her, “We must hurry. There are some things I have to tell you!”

Loretta had been sitting with family elders since she was a young child but her mother, Beatrice Long Visitor Holy Dance, had not yet finished passing on all the knowledge she knew Loretta would need to step into the role of family matriarch.

For many years, Loretta has been training the next generation on the protocols unique to each ceremony and the traditions and beliefs that go hand in hand with ceremony.

We’ll be publishing a series of Q&As here so you can get to know these extraordinary young women, how their elders have impacted them, and what their vision is for the future.
