Born on Pine Ridge Reservation, Milo’s family is from the Wounded Knee area. He has spent his life fighting for the human rights of Indigenous Peoples and the protection of the sacred Black Hills.  He began advocating for the Lakota and other Indigenous Peoples around the world in the 1970’s and has been instrumental in the creation of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act, and the fight against uranium mining and extraction. He serves as President of the Governing Board of Taku Skan Skan Wasakilyapi (Global Institute for Traditional Sciences) and is the Field Director for the Slim Buttes Agricultural Development Project. Milo’s prayer and life’s work is dedicated to the protection of ceremony, sacred sites, his ancestors and the Lakota Oyate for the next seven generations.
